About Monty

We rescued this handsome fella named Monty only hours from death row at a Houston shelter. Monty is a 1-year and 9 months old Dutch Shepherd who weighs 65 lbs. He is an active fella who loves to play. He is still full puppy who is bouncy. He has now learned that jumping on people is not tolerated. Also, he has now mastered walking on a leash, and he does it well. He understands 'heel' and 'free' while walking on a leash. He also responds to commands like 'sit', 'stay', 'here', 'down', 'in your crate', 'potty outside', and 'go for a walk', Monty takes treats from the hand gently. Monty currently lives with other dogs ranging from a 4-lb Yorkie to a 70-lbs Labrador Retriever. He has done well with the other dogs in the home. He can be a bit protective of high value special treats and his food. Best is to just give him those inside his crate and all is good. Monty is crate-trained and house-trained. He is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccines, on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Monty would do best with an experienced dog owner who knows how to handle a working breed. Someone who can keep him well-exercised and can put in the time to continue to train him and stimulate his mind. He is an awesome and fun dog and makes a wonderful companion to someone. We can see Monty enjoying hikes, runs, long walks, things around the water (yes, he is a water boy) with his new family. There won't be a dull moment with this knucklehead boy in the house!
