About Scruffy

Scruffy is possibly a Basset hound, Flat coated retriever mix. That is just our guess. He has the appearance of a retriever but has very short legs and a long body. He is a medium sized dog weighing 40 pounds. He is 13 years old. His owner surrendered him to a shelter to be euthanized. He has been an outside only dog until now. He is potty trained. He was escaping his yard and digging to get out. He needs a lot of attension an must be observed when outside. He is a very affectionate dog. The shelter staff fell in love with him. His teeth are amazingly good for his age, but we are having them checked out and will have whatever is necessary fixed. He does seem to have some arthritis in his hips and does not do well with stairs. so a ranch style home would be best. He can do a few stairs, but not a full staircase. He also requires a securely fenced back yard. He can do small walks which may be good for him. He has no known medical issues, but we have scheduled an appointment for bloodwork to verify. He is somewhat sight impaired and arthitic, which is to be expected at his age. He is quite remarkable actually for his age. When I first met him, he was so happy. I opened the hatch of my van and he half succeeded in jumping right in. LOL! He is good with other dogs but will respond with aggression if they start it first. Older gentle children only please. Scruffy is neutered and up to date. He is waiting a Vet visit September 13th but that will be covered. a His adoption fee was $150 but has been waved by a good samaritan.
