About Jake and Remy

Adoption Fee: 150
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult

Jake (male, red merle, fixed) and Remi (tri, female, unfixed) are a brother and sister pair from the same litter. They are 4 years old and up to date on all shots. This is the hardest post I have had to write as our family are animal lovers. We have had them since they were 8 weeks old. Jake is very high energy and loves to run. He is a big cuddly guy who is highly protective of the family. Remi is a very shy/timid female that gets very nervous around strangers. These two play hard with each other. They had were initially training with perimeter collars which went well however we did not keep it up do to having a fully fenced yard. Prior to getting Jake fixed, they did breed one litter of five puppies. We attempted to get Remi fixed prior to this but the vet stated that they noticed some cardiac rhythm changes and would not do the surgery until they were addressed. We were not able to afford the canine cardiologist. Neither dog has exhibited any health concerns. The primary reason for the need to rehome is that both dogs have bitten someone. Jake had gotten loose and went to find our daughter at her friend's house. When our daughter brought him back to the house, her young friend followed them to our house. Upon arrival at our porch, Jake bit the young boy on the leg. We are unsure of all of the specific details. Remi bit our mailman three days after having puppies as she was out front with me and the mailman got in between her and her puppies. Our concerns are that when our 3 year cries, jake gets in her face and we aren't able to tell if it is aggressive or protective. After speaking with professionals and people that I trust who are very familiar with Aussies, we are concerned for the kids. Remi is my wife's girl. She stays by her side whenever possible. We love these dogs but can't risk any other issues especially when it comes to our kids. We would prefer then to go together if possible. We believe that they deal best with single females with a large area to run. Jake would be a good herding dog I think. I wouldn't recommend a family with kids. With some behavioral training I would be more trusting them around men but that seems to be their fear other than myself. We are posting as the other option point to euthanasia and we want to avoid that if possible. Please reach out with questions.
