About Precious

Meet Precious This gorgeous girl has suffered so much already. Life has thrown Precious so many obstacles, but she has been a lovely, sweet and precious young dog since arriving. Precious's previous home didn't care for her very well. She was hit by a car and left with a broken hip (untreated), she got pregnant, and she had her puppies outside in the dirt without protection. Sadly, one of her puppies died before we could get her surrendered to us. Precious was traumatized and is still trying to cope with her fears. Her physical pain is gone. Her hip is mended, and her puppies have all been adopted, but her emotional scars remain. Since arriving, we've shown Precious that she matters, that she's safe and loved. She is getting braver around people she trusts. She is super sweet. She is calm and quiet. She's a little over a year old. We think she is a chocolate lab and golden retriever mix. She is a medium size girl with a beautiful face and a gorgeous light copper-colored coat. Her eyes still show her trauma, but they are soulful and will melt your heart. Precious LOVES other dogs. It will be important for her to have a doggie friend in the house to help her continue building her confidence. She is yard mates with Copper and the two absolutely LOVE each other. Precious comes alive around him and runs with joyful abandon, forgetting her fears. Precious will need a containment fenced yard. She is terrified of cars after being hit. Precious will do best in a quiet home. Small children might overwhelm her, but older kids might be fine. Precious doesn't lash out, she's not fear aggressive, rather she retreats. She will need a very patient and gentle family or person to help build her confidence. We know Precious is going to be an amazing companion for that special someone or family willing to invest in her well-being, emotionally. We cannot say enough good things about this sweet dog. But her road to recovery will take time. People who are willing to help build her confidence and understand what she's been through will be richly rewarded. We're so glad she's with us. We'll keep working with her. We'll keep loving her. We'll keep praying that her forever family comes for her. Precious is absolutely precious. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
