About PETEY

American Bulldog / Pit Bull
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Petey is a lovely old dog who's obviously had a hard life. As with most rescued dogs, we'll never know much about his past, but his recent history supposedly involved a heartless owner who decided he didn't want an old dog any more - and so gave him to a homeless man. For Petey, who's at least 10 years old, and hardly young and spry, and who has some arthritis, suddenly finding himself on the street was really hard. Luckily, he was rescued, and he's currently enjoying a carefree existence at his foster family's beach house near Seattle. He discovered the pleasure of a comfy couch early on (who knows, maybe for the first time in his life). But now, with a good diet and some great exercise, he's suddenly coming to life! This sweet old dog probably wouldn't win any beauty contests - he has a big, chunky, mastiff-like head and eyes that are different colors - but he's a lovely guy who just wants comfort and love in his sunset years. Our best guess is that he's pit bull mixed in with American Bulldog or Mastiff, and his one blue eye could have come from any one of a dozen other breeds. He's about 75 lbs, neutered and vaccinated; he might be hard of hearing. He's house-trained and knows basic commands. Gets along fine with other dogs (though he's sometimes reactive to unneutered males); he is not good with cats so will need a cat-free household. Being retired, Petey doesn't need - or want - a lot of exercise (you won't have to take him on hikes in the mountains). A couple of short walks a day will do him just fine, and in between he'll love to curl up next to you on the couch and snooze (by the way, he snores). He loves to be petted and scratched, and if you get down to his level he'll reward you with large, sloppy kisses. There's nothing better than loving gratitude from a once-neglected dog. Petey would be the ideal companion for a retired person who wants a calm, loyal couch potato to hang out with at home. He's just a big loverboy who will reward you tenfold for whatever you give him.
