About Big Coco

Adoption Fee: $400
Redbone Coonhound / Rottweiler
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Our gorgeous Big Coco is a cool blast of fresh air! She was found as a city stray in Staten Island, NYC, and brought by Animal Control Officers to NYCACC. When no owner came forward, she was transferred to our Connecticut rescue. We believe Big Coco is a mix of Red Tick Coonhound and Rottweiler. She is a large muscular girl, at 53 pounds, strong enough to overwhelm some folks.%A0Her breed mix is largely gangly hunting dog, but the influx of Rottie gives her some muscle and power.%A0 Her ideal adopter would be an active single or couple, who can include Big Coco on hikes, runs, power walks, camping, or any kind of vigorous activity that will challenge mind and body.%A0Big Coco would do well with experienced, confident dog owners, who understand the importance of ongoing discipline and obedience work, and are willing to continue her on her path to Canine Good Citizenship. She's almost there! We have had a blast with Big Coco.%A0We've taken her hiking and swimming, and have polished her commands and manners.%A0She really thrives in the outdoors, and has a delightful, impish, playful vibe. Big Coco is extremely affectionate and revels in any human contact.%A0The more action and exercise that she gets, the better.%A0She is not a dog who will be happily relegated to the backyard, and ignored. We think that Big Coco could join a multi-dog home if the chemistry is right, and the home has some structure. A busy family with lots of kids, and high energy dogs coming and going, is too chaotic a lifestyle for Big Coco to process. She would thrive in a calmer, disciplined environment where she can be front and center, and benefit from her adopter's laser focus. Big Coco has done well with some dogs and not well with others.%A0She has an Alpha personality, and engages in vigorous play, which may be too much for some dogs.%A0She's not the type to back down from confrontation with a high energy, ill-mannered dog, and she has not particularly liked our personal gaggle of yappy, ankle biters.%A0On the other hand, she has been friendly to some of our more sociable rescue dogs.%A0We would need to do a proper dog introduction to assess chemistry at Adoption meeting. We haven't had Big Coco around cats, but she would likely chase them beyond their comfort level. Big Coco's house manners are good, but she still has an older puppy vibe, and may need a correction or two about jumping up on Strangers.%A0She is house trained and crate trained, although Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home.%A0She is in optimal health, and at an ideal lean body weight of 50 pounds.%A0Big Coco has been spayed and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.%A0She has been dewormed, and microchipped.%A0 If you are interested in Big Coco, please write to [email protected] or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.%A0
