About SAILOR

Meet SAILOR: This sweet, happy, goofy black and brown Female Sheppard mix is about 5 years old and weights approximately 45 lbs. Sailor had lived for almost 4 years,(most of her life) at the US Coast Guard Headquarters in Kendall; a large, wooded area. People at the base and a good Samaritan fed her everyday but no one could get close to her. One day Sailor decided to leave the base and she was hit by a car, and what could've turn into a tragedy it turned into a blessing, as our volunteers rushed to pick her up. She was helped to transition from her formal life into the domesticated life she now lives. She has made so much progress and has shown to be a very smart girl who picks up on commands very fast. Also, she knows how to let her human know what she wants and needs and is ready for the next step: FIND A FOREVER FAMILY! General Behavior: Sailor loves to run in the backyard and roll on the grass. She likes to hide in the bushes and for you to look for her calling her 'mami' in a high pitch voice. Once you find her, she will dance for you and roll over to get belly rubs. She also likes to sit in the couch while keeping you company watching tv or looking outside the window or glass doors. She is not a barker and will let you know when she is thirsty or needs to go potty. Likes & Dislikes: Sailor loves to be carried like a baby and to be scratched behind her ears. She also likes to hide under the beds or to sit on the floor next to you. She fears thunder and lightning as well as fireworks; however, she loves to run under the rain and get wet. Training: Sailor is crate and potty trained and will let you know whenever she needs to use the bathroom. She now knows how to walk on a leash, but she prefers night walks. She sleeps inside her crate as she feels safer in there, and once she feels more comfortable, she will lay on her bed. She sometimes will want you to add some people food to her dog food, as that's what she has been fed for years. Medical: Sailor is Spayed, microchipped, teeth cleaned and up to date on all shots. And she is on monthly preventatives for fleas and heartworm which she will need to continue taking. Other Animals: Sailor is not ok with other dogs. She doesn't mind them if they don't mind her. Not sure about cats as she has never been exposed to one. Children: Sailor prefers NO KIDS. Home: Sailor needs a house with a fenced backyard . She likes to spend most of her day outdoors, but will let you know whenever she wants to come in. Grooming: Sailor does require a grooming haircut as needed. She sheds very lightly and needs to be brushed every other day. Overall: Sailor is a loving and really low maintenance, laid back dog.
