About Casper

Oh how sweet Casper is! Sadly, that wasn't always the case. Casper came in as a stray and it was obvious right away that life had not been kind to him. For the first week, Casper was completely shut down, wouldn't look at shelter staff, and panicked when touched. He cowered after using the bathroom in his kennel and it absolutely broke our hearts to think someone hurt him for such a natural thing! With consistent and unyielding determination, we worked with Casper, gained his trust, and this boy has blossomed like a flower! He is a playful pup, approx 10 months to a year old. He now will happily greet visitors, but needs a lot of confidence building outside of his kennel and the shelter. He will take short walks on leash now, whereas before, he would nearly strangle himself trying to get away. Casper enjoys the company of most dogs, but has had a few disagreements with dominant males, so we suggest pups or females only as house mates (meet n greets are heavily advised to be safe). As Casper is still learning to trust ppl, we are currently recommending a quiet home with older children only. Quick movements scare him, and he needs to know he is okay! Casper needs time to adjust, and we know it's going to take a special human to win him over, but when it happens, we'll know and so will he! Yes, Casper can hear, so no worries there. He weighs 45-50 lbs, loves kisses and toys. He currently has 2 puppies on one side of his kennel, and a stray male hound mix on the other and they all are getting along fabulously! He especially enjoys playing with the puppies, as we are pretty confident he missed out on enjoying his puppyhood.
