About Sam

Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Introducing Sam - an awesome 2 year old Blue Heeler in Silverton, OR. Sam is neutered, house/crate trained, loves car rides and other dogs and is aces with a frisbee. Up to date on Vax, no medical issues and not on any medications. He hasn't lived with cats, but he never seems too concerned about them when we meet them on walks in the neighborhood (cats and squirrels - he mostly doesn't seem to know what they are for). Sam has a really great disposition and no naughty behaviors. His prior family said Sam did have some time with a professional trainer. He is great on / off leash, comes when called and knows basic commands. He's so smart too - ask him to go get a toy out of the basket in the other room and he'll run to get one to bring to you. He loves to cuddle and have lots of 'rub my tummy' time. I've had heelers before (my own and rescue/foster), and I love their personality and energy level. Sam and I have enjoyed lots of hikes, time at the dog park and of course fetch/frisbee at Silver Falls State Park. His back story, and the reason I'm hoping to find a forever home is this: His prior family got him as a puppy and as their children started getting older and more rambunctious, it was causing Sam a lot of stress and therefore problems with the family. They had to crate him all the time. I thought what I had to offer would be a good fit for Sam (quiet space, work from home so he's not alone all the time, lots of activity, etc.). He has already decompressed and relaxed a lot since I've been caring for him. His family were adamant that they wanted him back if this adoption wasn't a good fit for him - they have since changed their minds. Unfortunately my new upstairs neighbors are up at all hours of the night which is stressing Sam out - he's alerting, growling, barking at their sounds. I'm trying everything I can to support Sam to help him through this, but I don't think my housing situation is ultimately the best fit. I think a place with no kids, no shared walls/neighbor sounds would be ideal - he'd love a backyard or acreage/farm to call his own. For now, I'm thinking of myself as his foster person. I'm going to keep loving on him and letting him know life is okay - and that someday he'll find just the PERFECT place to live out his days. Thank you.
