Buddy is an anatolian shepherd. He is a 3 year old intact male who weighs 100+ lbs. He came to us from Texas September 2021. He was given to us for free. The owner could no longer pay for his food due financial constraints from COVID. He is an excellent guard dog and guarded 300 goats for us from September until February. When kidding season started we started having issues with dead baby goats. We initially thought we had some coyotes getting in so we set some deer cams along the perimeter fence. There were no coyotes but still dead goats. We removed Buddy from the goat herd and then the killings stopped. He is an excellent guard dog except that he will kill baby goats. When we removed him from the goat herd, we put him in our backyard to see if we could integrate him into our family. But he continually jumped on my girls and kept fighting with our male border collie. He is a really sweet dog, but we didn't feel comfortable leaving him in our backyard with our girls unsupervised. He has never bit a person. He will jump up on people but it has never been malicious. He will be aggressive toward other male dogs. I think with proper training and someone who could take the time to work with him he could be a great guardian for a home/farm or even a companion animal for the right person.
