About Quest

Adoption Fee: $375
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Quest is a gorgeous 2 year old Red Merle Australian Shepherd with a long fluffy tail that's always wagging! He is neutered, house broken and crate trained, sleeping in his crate through the night. He is about 52 pounds but could stand to gain a few. Quest has not been tested with cats. He loves attention, although he does take a bit of time to warm up to a person. With some patience and love, he will be nudging you for pets in no time. He absolutely loves a good belly rub! He does jump up to greet people he is comfortable with, especially when he is excited to see you first thing in the morning. We are working on the 'off' command which he is starting to understand but progress is slow. For this reason, Quest may not be suited for a home with small children as he might accidentally knock over. He also jumps on the counter and can jump over small gates. Quest plays well with other dogs but would also be very content being an only dog. He doesn't have that typical aussie energy you would expect for his age. He loves to lounge around, take naps, and cuddle up on the couch with a good pillow. He likes playing with toys once he is comfortable. He loves anything that squeaks, a rope toy or a ball he can chase around the house. He's happy to play all on his own or with another dog for a short while. He will let the other dog know when he's had enough. He does whine and make funny noises while he plays which takes some getting used to! He is protective over his 'person' and can get a bit jealous. Especially when another dog also wants the same attention. Quest does not pull much on a leash but he does tend to bark at people walking by. He has a bit of stranger danger but with more exposure this should resolve. His forever home should continue to work on this with him. He rides quietly in the car although he is nervous for the ride. He loves to be brushed which is great for his Aussie coat. Quest does have an eye condition- corectopia which causes his pupils to be on the outer edges of his eyes and makes him appear cross eyed. While he can see, we suspect his peripheral vision is not 100% as he sometimes has trouble following a ball during fetch or occasionally will walk into something. It hasn't affected his spirit at all! The ideal home for Quest would be someone who is willing to give him their time, patience, and understanding while he comes out of his shell. This dog is craving love and affection so he needs someone who will love up on him!
