About Dexter

My name is Dexter and I'm looking for my forever home. I'm a 4 year old neutered male American Staffordshire Terrier that weighs about 70 lbs. I am goofy and playful, and I love toys so much, I might even be a little obsessed with them! But I don't like to share, and I get grumpy if another dog gets close to my toy, so I'd be happiest as the only pet. I think cats look like excellent chew toys, so I've been told I can't be around them. I grew up with other Pitties and loved them very much, so I might be able to have a friend someday, in the right circumstance. I am well-mannered, smart, and energetic. I love a good belly rub and giving kisses. I'm housebroken, crate and kennel trained, and honestly, if I get bored when I'm left alone, I sometimes find my own version of a toy, so it's best that I'm in a crate or kennel when no one is home. Right now I'm mostly staying outdoors in a run, but I would really love to be inside and wherever my family is. I love adventures, but I haven't gotten to go on many, so I do pull a bit on a leash. I just get so excited, I can't help it! I do really well in a car too. I don't jump on people or furniture and I've never had an accident in the house. I have a large vocabulary and I love a daily routine. I am healthy, current on all preventative care, on heartworm prevention monthly and I'm microchipped. I eat Royal Canin dry dog food and I don't eat any people food, so I don't beg. When I was 7 months old, I was riding in the back of my family's truck and decided to jump out. I ran off and was lost for 3 days. I ate a bunch of junk and after I was found, I got really sick and needed emergency surgery. My family couldn't afford it, so I was going to be euthanized, but that very day, I was rescued and had surgery right away. I'm completely healed now and I've forgotten all about that. I would really love a forever home where I can be active, the only pet, have a yard and just be loved and played with so much! I'll even bring my favorite toy, bed, food and treats!
