About Nakoma

This gorgeous blue eyed boy is one of our favorite and special rescues. He was rescued after 7 months of doggie jail, yes I said 7 months of being locked up, passed up and was fed up of being kenneled. His name was Ren, he was depressed, mad and had given up! He was reported as hard to handle and no hope in sight until Alljoy4paws came and had faith in him that he was a good boy and just needed to trust again, feel loved again and treated with kindness and respect. With this new chance comes a new life with a new name and he was named Nakoma which means great warrior and great spirit which he earned for making it out of the shelter after so long, especially for a husky. Nakoma was nothing that the shelter described, he walked out a little nervous and unsure what was happening but quickly realized he was safe and free. He jumped right into the car as fast as the door opened in the backseat and he raced to the passenger seat and called 'Shotgun'! He road like a gem in the car and he smiled the whole way too! In fact, he never stopped smiling the 3.5hrs we were together. Check his pics! He might be a little cautious at first but warms up will trust you after you show him love, and respect. . He wants that loving wonderful life that you can give him! He loves dogs and people and just wants to be part of the pack. He walks like a dream on a leash although given the chance to get loose from his collar, he was all about wanting to feel free and just run, I don't blame him after what he's been through. By the end of our time this 'hard to handle' 5yr old was jumping up to give me gentle hugs and kisses. When he saw his new collar and leash, he gave them kisses, awwww! Nakoma is currently being fostered in Hayward, California. Here's what his foster Bobbi has to say about the special boy, ' This beautiful boy is full of love for the right person. He has had a very hard start in life so he needs a gentle hand and that his person will take it very slow. Patience is the key to this boys heart. New people scare him so introducing him using the don't look, don't touch and don't reach for him approach works very well. Letting him approach first and walk away will help this tender hearted boy thrive in his new home. Nakoma loves to play! He will fetch a ball and bring you his favorite toy for hearty game of tug of war. Nakoma loves to cuddle on the sofa, sleep in bed with you by your feet. He is crate trained, will use a potty pad, outside green is his favorite. Nakoma needs a quiet home no children please. Nakoma loves trail hitches. He is learning to ignore outside city noises, back trail walks are best for him. Nakoma likes the dog park and is getting used to other dogs and is still learning what play is so to be safe he wears a muzzle when we go. Nakoma is one beautiful dog both inside and out. He loves to play and once he knows and trusts his person he will play. It is so exciting to see his reaction when one of his favorite people come over . He gets the biggest smile on his face. One of his favorite things to do is fetch! Nakoma needs quality introductions like we should do with all dogs. He'll love to snuggle with you on the couch and will put his head in your lap an enjoy getting all your love and attention. Nakoma has made friends both human and furry with slow quality introductions. He responds to kindness. He knows sit, stay and will give you his paw on command. He also responds to a firm no, leave it, be gentle and drop it and off. He gets along with most indoor cats (large calm cats are the key) He also respects bossy little dogs.' Nakoma is even ok with the foster's cats. He is ready for a great husky savvy home to make all of his doggy wishes come true! Could that be you? We can't wait to hear from you!
