Nala Hound Mix 1yr| 45 lbs Quincy, MA Kids Y Dogs N Cats N URGENT NEED! 'It's a Small World After All' is Nala's theme song. She needs a simple environment to overcome severe fear, which she's had her entire short life. In a predictable home setting, she is a delight. She spends most of her day roaming between the backyard and cuddling up in a cozy spot, preferably with a person. Sweet, shy Nala is a one-year old, 45-pound hound mix located in Quincy, MA. Nala loves to be outside to run, sniff, and chase. She will flop on her back to invite a belly rub with those she loves and trusts. She will provide great companionship and snuggles to her new forever family. She is very good with people, not aggressive at all. Her rescue hero will need to give her time and show patience so she may reach her comfort level. Nala is a cautious dog, who does best at home in familiar surroundings with her caregivers. She feels most confident in her backyard, as unexpected encounters and new situations make her nervous. When walking on leash, she is on alert, tail down. However when walking with another dog, she is much less nervous. Please watch the video (taken by a professional trainer who specializes in behavior) to understand how fearful she is of the world. https://youtu.be/LoV8pqnBtvk She has a flight or freeze response (no fight). Initially Nala fled from the trainer. It took about five minutes to get her leashed to continue the eval. She takes medication to reduce her current anxiety, which must be continued. In summary, the trainer stated: Nala was too fearful and shut down to perform a thorough evaluation. Though highly uncomfortable, Nala is a good dog and has no aggression with humans. She needs a place and a person to help her with fear issues. Nala will need someone experienced in dogs with fear-based anxiety and a fenced yard for exercise. She will need training from the start to help her feel secure in her surroundings. She will become someone's loyal companion once she feels safe. As a hound she has prey drive instincts so it is best to keep her away from small animals. She is ok with dogs her size or larger if allowed to meet appropriately, especially males. She has many canine friends but these are dogs she has gotten to know. She grew up with two pugs, but one day an incident occured with one of them. Because of that her owners cannot keep her but they know she is a good dog in a home without other dogs. They would much rather rehome her than put her to sleep. Because prey drive was likely the cause of this incident, we are helping them rehome responsibly. Nala is spayed, house and crate trained, and travels well in a car. She has no problem going out in rain or snow. She has been left home for small periods of time outside of the crate with no issues.
