About Lola

It is with deep regret that I am asking for your consideration to surrender our dog, Lola. Female She is approximately 2/3 Great with other dogs and cats Not good with small children Located in Kankakee, IL 60901 UTD on vaccines Spayed 09/2021 We took her into our home 08/2021 as her previous owner surrendered her stating in her new apartment she couldn't have pets. We were happy to welcome her to our family and she seemed like a good fit. Previous owner had very little information on her past. We knew at some point she had given birth to a litter of puppies but were not given a date. We vetted her and had her spayed 09/2021. She did great! In the time following we worked with her on integrating her into our family as she was always very skittish. She will urinate/yelp if scared or startled. As of recently she has really shown improvement. Previous owners crate trained her, however we did not use a crate with her as we did not have a need. I work from home so she was with me all day. She always did great when we left, especially if we played the radio. She is an excellent walker on a leash and needs to be on a lead when outside to hang out/go potty as she can jump a 4ft fence, we found out. She really enjoys the outdoors. We took her on her first camping trip this past weekend. She is afraid of water, hose/pool. We tried to help her learn to swim and she was not a fan. She runs when the garden hose is on, we are not sure why. We are working with her on that. The only reason we are asking for consideration of surrender is because she is very overstimulated/overwhelmed and anxious around our 2 year old. We cannot trust her around him and that would be no life for her, it is not fair. We did not know she was not good with children prior to or we couldn't have even considered taking her in. We would like to be fair to her and give her the best life/chance as possible. She is a good girl and is very sweet, just being around small children is not for her. We are very upset about the decision and heartbroken that it has come to this. We are hoping that she can be considered for part of your program as we can trust that your program is best and any potential families will be vetted appropriately. She's cute, caring, protective, great with other pets, loves to lounge and go on car rides. If this could gave been prevented, we would not be rehoming her. This is very hard and emotional to write. She's great, just not great with kids. This was a hard lesson to learn for our family. We want what's best for her as she has been through a lot.
