About Liberty

Chihuahua mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Liberty!! This sweet little girl came to us just before Memorial Day and that is where she got her name. She was found stray and taken to a very full shelter. We were thankful to save this sweet baby in time. Liberty is an approx. 5 year old Chihuahua mix. She weighs 8 pounds. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of her adoption. She is Heartworm negative. Liberty needs a special adopter that is willing to put the work in to gain her trust. She's doing so much better with her foster but needs a few days to build that trust with each new person. Once you have that trust she is a sweet, loving, couch cuddling lap dog! She just needs time to see that you are not scary. If you push the issue with her right away she will snap at you. If you are willing to give her a few days to trust you she will be glued to you on the couch in no time! After only two days her foster was able to give her a bath, cuddle with her, take her on walks, and even put cute sweaters on her. She just needs that first few days to settle in. Once she trusts you she is all about cuddle time. She is a lap dog and loves to sit with you or go on car rides with you. She does fine being crated but does not need a crate. She would also love to sleep in bed with her owners. Liberty has done well with cats. She tolerates other dogs but isn't a big fan of them. She is protective over her humans and will try to defend your lap from other dogs that approach. It would be easiest for her to go to a home without other dogs or with calm dogs that give her a lot of space. She would not likely do well with younger kids but a calm and understanding teen or older might work for her. Her ideal home would be a quiet couple or a senior. Someone that works from home would be amazing for her but not required. Liberty has a fairly low energy level. She really just enjoys being a couch potato or having you carry her around. She is doing great with leash walking. She is also doing good with her potty training with only a few accidents. She has not shown any issues sharing food or toys with people. She is doing very well with her foster but is likely to regress a bit moving to a new environment. Her new owner will need to be very patient with her for a few days while she adjusts. Once she does you'll be rewarded with a sweet, loving and beautiful companion. Home and Vet checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) Please message [email protected] directly with questions or to get an application.
