About Gringo

Adoption Fee: $100.00
American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Gringo is a 100 pound, male blue nose pittie. He has lived with me since he was a baby. I am a 60-year widow woman since my husband died a little over 4 years ago. I got Gringo as a puppy and he went to work with me everyday at the law office where I worked. We were together almost all of the time. Last Fall, I had to leave my job and hometown due to health issues and move in with my son and his family, including two teenagers and four cats. We installed baby gates to keep Gringo separate from the cats, plus the they kept the cats largely in their bedrooms to minimize issues. At first, I tried to integrate Gringo with the other family members but he nipped my grandson. I mistakenly thought it was because Gringo was being too rough trying to play but it happened again with a much younger child and this child needed stitches. Since then I have been extremely diligent about keeping him away from the kids and realized part of the problem was that he didn't want anyone near me. He does much better when I am out of the picture or we are alone. The last straw was last weekend when he bit ny daugher in law's ear while we were in the car. She had reached into the backseat to help me with my seatbelt I was having trouble with. He didn't growl at her, just nipping at her ear which drew blood but was not a serious injury. I believe it was because I was sitting in the backseat next to him and she was in my space. My son talked with other family members and they will not allow Gringo back here. Other family members have threatended to shoot him on sight. He is currently with my son and his wife in Florence, Oregon, but they cannot keep him long. I am currently in the process of filing for disability and not able to work and do not have the money to move and live on my own. I have exhausted my resources and am at the point where I need to either find a safe loving home for my boy or try to go back to work and earn enough money to move out on my own, which would be my preference if I am physically able to do so. Ideally, I hope to locate someone willing to give him a home for few months while I solve this issue. Alternatively, I am hopeful that I can find the person or persons to give Gringo a loving, safe home. This is not a dog who has ever been beaten or abused. He has never been put outside in a kennel or on a chain. He loves people, but he is overprotective of me and I realize that I am the problem. I am not alpha enough with him and I am too lenient with him. He needs a firm but loving owner(s), who are experience with dogs of this nature. I know this is a lot to ask, but I desparately need help and the sooner the better as I am out of options. He is a genuinely loving dog, housebroken, and knows basic obedience. He is eager to please and emotional. He actually loves people, just not around me. Any help or suggestions anyone can give me would be more than appreciated. Theresa t
