About Lily

Adoption Fee: $60
American Staffordshire Terrier / Boston Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Lily has the sweetest loving heart and is a soulful dog. She is highly intelligent and loves learning new things. She greats every morning with tail wagging happiness to see you and bring you a toy for tug. She gets so excited for toy play that she keeps you having fun with it and loves simply being in the company of people, but also chills super hard and loves/needs long naps and lazy lounge time. She has been my home office dog during Covid, and she finds listening to a zoom meeting and clicking around on the computer from her bed to be a great bedtime story for a deep sleep. She's very quiet so she makes a good office companion and isn't all up in your business. She likes to do her own thing, chew on a nylabone or a stuffy and lay in the sun on her own bed, or in her exercise pen. Lily has come so far in her personal growth since we rescued her from a high kill shelter in rural Virginia in fall of 2018. She has learned to be more trusting and optimistic, how to cope with new things, and lots of behaviors. We spent a year and a half in Madison WI living by the lake and then moved in 2020 to a farm in the Driftless region of Wisconsin where Lily has been enjoying the views and laying by the fire and walks in country life. But she has also had a hard time dealing with prey drive in this wildlife haven. She has been making huge strides in learning to disengage and now just watches deer and animals in the distance (win!), in large part due to her extensive positive-only training at home and with Ali at I Got This Sit for Board and Trains in Elgin, IL. We are about to embark on changes in our lives that we know would be hard for Lily and too much for us and we and Ali think she will really thrive with the right family that can take her forward on her journey and enjoy life together. Note from her trainer who knows her really well: Lily can be leashes walked and does not require a backyard. She cannot be placed with any cats/small animals and would thrive in an adult only household. Lily is very content as an only dog but is capable of integrating with other dogs given proper time and proper introductions. Her favorite things are: Toys! A new stuffy makes her so excited and feel like the most special girl in the world. Tug game (a good assistant for sit ups or pilates!) and fetch (but then enjoys the toy, doesn't bring it back much) Morning kisses and cuddles Massage, especially on her back getting belly rubs and shoulders massaged Falling asleep to zoom meetings Laying in the sun or by a fire 'Training time' (mixing up a series of 'place' 'middle' 'sit' 'lay down' 'paw' 'other paw' 'scratch' (on her scratch board, yes, she files her own front nails!), 'catch' with tossed treats Sniffle mats and sniffing in general Learning new things A perfect home would: Give her love, earn her trust, lots of play and teach her things Give her calm solo space for decompression nap time and respect her sleep A suburban home would be the perfect fit! But not necessary. For her future family, we will take her anywhere, and give lots of info and support and she will come with all her favorite things. Free pet sitting in the mid Atlantic region where we are moving to. Can't keep her due to life changes including a new job with lots of international travel and pregnancy.
