About KING

Meet King! He is a 5 year old, 3 1/2 pound Chihuahua. Poor King's owner died and he was passed around to five different homes while the family tried to figure out if they were going to be able to keep him. Those are a lot of changes for a little dog to take in. Poor King was so confused and mistrustful of everyone. It took him about a week for him to warm up in his foster home. Everything has to be on his terms at first, and it's best to let him come to you when he feels ready. King makes friends slowly, but loves to be in a lap once he is comfortable with someone. He will nap in an open door crate during the day if you are busy, but the lap is where he wants to be! He gives little kisses on the face once you have been deemed trustworthy! King is laid back and quiet most of the time, but if he sees something or someone unfamiliar out of the window or door he will let you know. We believe he was an only dog and, like many tiny dogs, he does not feel secure with other dogs. He tends to shy away from them and we think he would be best as an only dog. We have not had him around cats since he has been with us. Because of his size and tempermant he is not well suited for a home with children or people with walking or balance issues. King loves to ride in the car and is great in a carrier. He will not jump off a chair or couch, which is good because he's tiny and has fragile bones! He has a good appetite and eats dry dog food (small bites) with a little of wet food mixed in it. King needs to have a fenced yard and due to his tiny size must be supervised outside at all times. He does pretty well with his house breaking, but needs to be taken out regularly or he may have an accident in the house. When he goes out he does his business and wants to come right back in. He doesn't like walking in tall or wet grass. At night he wants to sleep in the bed with his family. King has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date of shots, neutered, fecal tested, is heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted. *To meet a dog or be considered for adoption you must first submit an adoption application for review.
