Wylie came to us after ten long months spent working to humanely trap her and rescue her from where she had been dumped in a wooded area. I have humanely trapped many dogs, and she still holds the record for the smartest dog I have ever trapped! She survived on her own, with NO human touch for those ten months after being dumped at about 8-9 months of age. Wylie was feral when captured, but has blossomed into a wonderful companion dog who loves and can be protective of her 'person/family'. She has lived in our pack for the entire time and she is now almost four years of age. After consultation with more than one Akita breeder with champion Akita dogs, we are quite certain she is a purebred dog who ended up in terrible circumstances very early in life. We have seen some aggression from her toward other pets, so will insist that she go only to adults (no kids) with NO other pets. Because she can become fearful and we do not want to ever put her at risk again, you must have a fully fenced, secure yard and be willing to commit to working and playing with her so that she is able to thrive. She knows basic obedience commands and we have been playing with her on agility equipment more recently. She accepts both male and female adult humans and once she trusts you, you are her safe 'person' whom she loves! Wylie accepts baths, sleeps willingly in a secure crate at night, and accepts nail trims when you sit with her and file her nails individually. Because we understand this breed and do sometimes have to take her places (such as vet visits, etc), where she could become fearful, we have worked to muzzle train her as well, so there will never be a chance of a negative, fearful bite response. Wylie will make some adult human(s) a protective, loving companion and we are committed to finding the best permanent home for her! Your adoption of her will come with a home visit from us and an agreement that she must come back to us if she is ever being relinquished.
