About PATCHES

Meet Patches! He is a super cute and friendly 10 year old, 15.8 pound Shih Tzu. Patches's owner spent a long time in and out of the hospital before finally passing away from Covid. After she passed the person taking care of him brought him to a vet and asked them to euthanize him. The vet refused, asked the person to surrender him instead, and then contacted us for help. We couldn't say no to that adorable under bite! Patches is such a good boy too! He is affectionate and loves everyone he meets. He has a great personality, and will sit on whatever lap is available for snuggles and kisses. Patches is good with all the small dogs in his foster home and enjoys doggie company. We have not had him around cats since he has been with us and we have no idea how he would be with kids. We don't think either would be a problem although we would recommend a home with older kids familiar with small dogs. Patches hasn't played with toys, but his foster mom thinks he will. He's been checking out the toy basket! He does a little dance when he begs for food-stands on his hind legs and waves both front paws with a nice pretty please! Patches walks well on a leash and seems to be housebroken. He will go out to potty or use potty pads if it's raining. At night he curls up and sleeps at the foot of the big bed. Patches has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He does need a dental which will be scheduled at one of our vets and is covered by the rescue. Because he has a pending vet appointment he is only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola.
