About Jax

Adoption Fee: $200
Lab / Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Sweet, silly, cool as a cucumber is the best way to describe Jax a Border Collie/Lab Mix, roughly 3 yrs old @ 56 lbs who looking for a Foster 2 Adopt Home. This dog is not at this location he is Fostered and Rescued in TX. He will be in Emmit 6/13-6/30 to meet any apps that match his needs and will stay with his foster in Emmit. He will be transportable after that with a completed application match and virtual home visits and meets. Jax was taken in by one of our adopters in Kingwood. Who learned he came from Cleveland where the neighbors were threatening to shoot him dead if he went after their goats again. This is how he lost his front leg in August w a bullet in him when he was in a pen w 2 Pyrenees and dead goats. Jax is a very strong tripod who has been thoroughly evaluated for all of his ligaments, tendons, range of motion, muscle strength and joint stability- he has 0 special needs. Jax enjoys his mile plus leash walks 2x a day BUT in a quad wheel chair this boy's world is like any other dog for: hiking; camping; and fun adventures with longer walks!! He is working on leash training for hyper excitement when he sees dogs using positive redirection, we are assuming he had little leash socialization and training. He isn't a dog to dog run and chase play type; more soft play and enjoys a dog who likes to show off for him and engage in play. Jax learns from the other dogs and would uncomfortable at a dog park; he prefers making dog friends and human companionship w walks. He does fine if someone has a walker, cane or a wheel chair not afraid of this. We think he would be a great candidate as a therapy dog to help patients in a dentist's office or a therapist's office offering his calmness and positive energy, visiting the hospitals with his smile and composure. He really likes dog and human companionship. Jax is a great dog with children too and he can give big hugs so no children under 10. He was treated for heart worms in November and is healthy as a horse. An ideal home for Jax is someone who works from home, retired or when home they really want to play tug or enrichment games and spend time with their dog. He maybe handicapped but he isn't a couch potato with his easy going demeanor. If you do have long work days he would love to be with a doggy pack dogs 25 lbs and up and have good exercise before work. Jax just really craves being fully included with his humans and dogs in the home. Jax does fetch and has a very soft mouth never any teeth even w tugging on a toy, he likes to be brushed, go for short car rides and is a great calm BC blend for movie time. A 6 foot wooden fence is best with a good size yard or he can do a smaller space like an apartment with lots of walks and maybe some wheel chair adventures. Don't let life pass you by without adding Jax to it. His adoption donation is $200 with an application to adopt Jax and home visit if applicable.
