About Dakota

Meet Dakota, a 3 yr old, 40 lb female Boxer/Bulldog mix in Newburyport, Mass. She ended up in a shelter due to the death of her owner and now she's in a foster home. Dakota has spent her entire life in a home with her person. She had little socialization so she will need to learn what life is all about. Butterflies, noises, birds..you name it. And she is loving learning it all. She is a very happy, happy girl and will keep you laughing all day long as you watch her learn the world. She loves people but has to learn how to approach in a calm way. She just gets so excited. She is beautiful and everyone just wants to come up and pat her. She is a puppy in a 3 yr old body. And speaking of body -she is all muscle. We are looking for someone that will not only give her the love and cuddles she so desperately craves but also balance it with leadership giving direction and training to allow Dakota to build confidence that will allow her to be the best dog she can be. She loves to learn and is very smart. She would excel in athletics such as agility. She does need her daily exercise so we are also looking for an active person/couple/family. If children, we prefer older dog savvy kids. Dakota is currently apprehensive and so will hold on to a toy as a security blanket (comes off as resource guarding) as this is the only thing in her control.But she readily swaps for another toy or treat. Dakota has not lived with other animals but does show interest in being social/playing with dogs.
