About Mercedes

Adoption Fee: $20
Pit Bull mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we feel we have no choice but to find Mercedes a new home. She is a sweet, loving dog, and I have never seen her display aggression toward a human. But she has become increasingly aggressive toward her siblings (the dogs, not the kids). She has begun to randomly and unpredictably jump on the other dogs, and when she goes after them, a switch flips and in that moment, she is not the sweet/gentle dog I know and trust. She was rescued from the streets of a rough area in Birmingham as a puppy and has always been skittish, anxious, and territorial. It was pretty clear she had suffered neglect and possibly abuse in the first couple of months of her life. I have seen her display aggression toward Batman when toys and food were involved, so I learned how to avoid those incidents. However, lately, this has been happening more and more with no apparent triggers. While I'm certain she would never intentionally harm her humans, I know that I can't control her when that switch flips other than to physically restrain her. I keep her separated from the others unless I am closely supervising them, but ultimately, I'm a human being and I make mistakes. I feel it's only a matter of time before she seriously injures my smaller dog, and most of all, it concerns me for the kids safety should they try to intervene. If you think you might know anyone who has no other pets and who needs a loyal and protective furry friend, please share it his with them.
