About Rufus

Great Dane
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Ruff! Ruff! It's Rufus and I'm here to tell you that Danes aren't called 'great' for nothing! My name is Rufus and I'm a 100 pound, 2-year-old male Great Dane who relishes life! I'm currently in Hanson, MA where my so-called 'family' never picked me up after dropping me off for boarding. That really hurt my feelings, but Mr. Mike at Five Rings Pet Resort has been very understanding and letting me hang out with him until I get adopted. Meanwhile I am using all the skills I've learned from the trainers here. I'm well-trained, walk nicely, and can be trusted off-leash. I have lots of experience with other dogs. Big or small, boys or girls%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD|I'm a good all-around friend, especially with supervised play. I love running around in the big playgroup (and my handsome 'fawnequin' coat stands out in a crowd). I bet I'd love pack walks and hiking if those activities interest you, too! Although I like playing with other dogs, I want to be your only fur kid. I have some kinks to work through as a result of being passed around. I have no experience with cats; felines need not apply! I'm called goofy and headstrong, plus I need something called 'neutering' so let's leave it at that for now. I must tell you that something really weird is going on with humans around here. They are either extraordinary and understand canine kids, like the people here, or clueless about what dogs are all about. The problem is I'm caught in the middle. The trainers and staff say I'm the cat's meow (whatever that means), but the people who tried adopting me say I wasn't good enough. The rejections have made me insecure. I don't know if I'm coming or going. I really like people, but not the kind that push me around or give up easily. Some people are terrible with commitments, but I'm not a library book that can be returned. Now, I do realize adolescent dogs, especially big ones like me, can be challenging. Be honest, were you a perfect teenager? But the thing is, I'll grow out of this phase with a little help, just like you did. I would love an experienced large dog owner who can stop the cycle of madness and give me a real forever home. Great Dane experience would be even better because I am a unique breed with certain needs and characteristics. I would love a daily routine, keeping up with my training, and staying socialized with other dogs. A fenced yard is a big plus for me! Older kids, 12+ only since I am huge. Apply to adopt me through my friends at Animal Rescue Konnection! Love, Rufus xo https://tiny.cc/ARK-Application #ARKforRufus #JustSaveThem A NOTE from Rufus' advocates: Because of human failure, Rufus was put into situations he was uncomfortable with and now he has a bite history. Both of the two 'adopters' in Rufus' life failed him on the very first day they had him. They were inexperienced and did not know how to transition a dog, let alone a large dog with an unsteady past, into their home. The first time, he bit a woman who grabbed at his collar, something you don't do to a dog you do not know and who does not know you. The second time, the person failed to properly introduce Rufus to her other dog. After much play and stimulation something happened and Rufus bit the dog. Both times, medical attention and stitches were needed. Rufus is now a high risk case. We hope someone with experience will believe in him just as we do and give him a clean slate to start afresh.
