About DAISEY

PLEASE READ TO THE END FOR ADOPTION INFORMATION. Meet pretty little Daisey! She is a 3 to 4 year old, 9.3 pound Chihuahua mix who was owner surrendered to us. When we first got her Daisey was very scared and fear-biting due to her mistrust of people. Her foster family had helped her overcome her fear and she has become a sweet little dog, although she is still timid and shy and can be nippy if she's scared. To say Daisey is a lap dog just doesn't go far enough. She would sit in your lap the entire day cuddling and giving kisses if she could. She is so affectionate and loving. If you lean over and bend your arms, she will jump into your arms using her two front legs to grab on. At night she likes to be curled up next to her person or in their lap under the covers. If she can't be in your lap during the day, she will curl up on a dog bed in her foster mom's office, hang out on the back of the sofa, or sometimes goes to the big bed to snuggle under the covers. Daisey finds great comfort with her person and has some anxiety when left alone. With all that said it takes Daisey time to get used to new people. Loud noises and active environments make her nervous. She will bite if you reach out and grab her until she trusts you, but will happily come to you on her own. Negative reinforcement should be avoided. Daisey came from a very stressful, frightening situation. She reacts well to praise, affection, treats, and soft voices. That will go a long way towards gaining her trust. She gets along with the other dogs at her foster home, but is afraid of more assertive and boisterous dogs. She thinks the resident cat is very interesting and likes to seek her out. She should not go to a home with kids of any age. Daisey trusts women much more than men. She is very food motivated and that will be your best tool! She will eat kibble during the day and in the evening she gets a special treat with her kibble- a little wet dog food or boiled chicken breast is a favorite. Daisey is fairly well potty trained, but she may have an occasional accident while she learns your routine. She will go outside or use the pee pad if she is not let out when needed. She walks well on a leash and likes to ride in the car. Daisey's perfect home will have a fenced in yard since she enjoys wandering with other dogs or her person, another small, calm dog, a quiet household, a family that is often at home, and plenty of love and affection. Daisey has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12 month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Applicants should live within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted. *To meet a dog or be considered for adoption you must first submit an adoption application for review.
