About Diesel

Bluetick Coonhound mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Diesel's evaluator '...found him to be a very delightful dog!' Well his caretakers and advocates could not agree more! Meet Diesel! He's a big boy with an even bigger personality though just a baby at one-year old. Diesel, a Coonhound mix with possible pit bull traits, is staying with our friends at the Lawrence Animal Control in Lawrence, MA - but c'mon people! That's no place for a pup with the world waiting to be explored and people needing to be loved on! You can be his hero by rescuing Diesel after a difficult start in life. He was bought as a puppy from a guy in Maine that kept dogs outside in cages. Then he lived in a small apartment with one adult and young children. He was often kept in a crate. Diesel is not yet neutered (but will be) and the owner later acquired a 6-month old intact female pit bull (get the picture). Next, Diesel was surrendered to a pound after a 'claim' that he bit someone. Details surrounding the bite are not available and at best sketchy, but the owner wanted him euthanized. The officer's impression of Diesel is that he's a young, frustrated dog, lacking exercise and enrichment in life. However, he shows signs that he's very smart and eager to be a good boy. He apparently lived with kids without issues. He has no experience with cats, but dogs are a different story! Diesel had a 'dog test' with a similar sized, well-mannered dog. Simply put, the meeting turned into a tail wagging, butt-shaking festival! Super trainer Laurel from Lulu's Legacy conducted a 90-minute assessment at the pound. Diesel immediately came to the front of the kennel to see her. He had a relaxed, wagging tail, and then placed his front paws on the kennel door. He took tossed treats, and then gently took treats from her hand. When brought out on a slip lead, he was jumpy and happy like a regular puppy. His body language was relaxed at all times, and the trainer never had the feeling this was anything more than a young, confined dog, highly aroused once out of the kennel. His jumping decreased with time and he voluntarily sat. He couldn't get enough petting. From a distance, the trainer called his name and he came bounding back. Diesel enjoys toys, and happily chases after balls and stuffed toys. While playing, his body language is relaxed and wiggly. He did not mind having a ball taken out of his mouth. When given a bowl of food, his tail never stopped wagging. He wasn't bothered by a fake hand or the trainer's hand adding treats to his bowl. Is this an aggressive dog who should be put down?
