About Chief

Pit Bull mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

This handsome fellow is called Chief. He came into the shelter as a stray with a microchip. We contacted the owner'|but unfortunately he was never reclaimed. We know - old dogs aren't as 'hip and happening' as young puppies are. We're just not sure why everyone thinks that way! Old dogs are some of the best dogs! They're much more easygoing and low energy, so they don't require as much exercise and attention as their younger counterparts. Often they fit in better with busy, growing families because they're more low maintenance. Especially 'recycled' dogs like Chief that have already had an owner before. You're not starting from scratch with manners and training. He already walks well on a leash and he knows how to sit and shake on command (though he'll mostly only do it for a treat - which is fair!). We've been told by previous fosters that he's very well behaved in the house as well (potty trained, no counter surfing, no digging or barking). Chief walks well on a leash. He's lively and curious, but it only takes about two short walks a day to keep him satisfied. He's lived well in foster care with children and likes affection and cuddling up to people. Chief has done well with other dogs in shelter playgroups, but he can be so excited to be making new friends that sometimes he get a little too up close and personal than the other dog is comfortable with. As long as the other dog wants to be friends Chief is happy - he's not the least bit shy. He does do best with submissive dogs. Chief is a 10YO Pit Bull that weighs 90 lbs. He came into the shelter as a stray on 5/9/22.
