About Chai

Adoption Fee: $50
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi, my name is Tenaya Storm and I'm writing to see if you could help me rehome my dog.%A0have a 3 year old, 50 lbs pit mix named Chai who first came into my care through a foster program located in Oakland, California in March 2021. I never intended to adopt her as I had planned to move to Denver, Colorado where I now currently reside. Unfortunately, she was not adopted before I moved, nor were there any alternative fosters available, which is why I am now seeking to rehome her in Colorado. Placing Chai back into a shelter was also not an option. I was told by the shelter trainer in Oakland that it would be more humane to put her down than for her to go back into the shelter. Additionally, the Oakland shelter was consistently well over capacity, to the point that they are putting down adoptable dogs due to lack of space -%A0I ended up adopting her to spare her from the stress of the shelter/possible euthanasia. I want to be clear that Chai is a wonderful dog, and I believe she has not found her forever home mainly due to lack of support from the foster program in Oakland. She's incredibly loving and cuddly. She has a great personality. She has never met a person she didn't instantly love. She has zero food/resource guarding. She is potty trained. She is mostly leash trained (she is almost perfect when it's quiet and there are few distractions-like at night). She will go in her crate on her own and sleep there without a problem. She hangs out and sleeps pretty much all day while I work from home. She will even wait for me to wake up in the morning before making any noise or asking to go outside-no matter how late I sleep in. She did great when I took her camping. She has never chewed/destroyed any property. She's eager to please, and is a good listener. Due to her background, she requires support for her separation anxiety and reactivity when she sees other people or dogs-pulling and struggling to get to them. With people I am positive she has friendly intentions-albeit way too much exuberance. I have every reason to believe she has friendly intentions with dogs as well, but due to shelter policy I was never allowed to let her get close enough to find out while I was fostering her, and at this point don't have the resources to find out safely and responsibly. Because of that, it's very stressful trying to keep her away from other dogs while living in an apartment in the city. And regardless, she needs more training and dog socialization to get to the point where I could easily bring her out in public. I know she will do great in a home that has a backyard, few noises (like barking neighbor dogs), and someone who is home a majority of the time, or honestly any combination of these three.%A0 I would obviously prefer for her to be adopted, but if she can't be rehomed soon I am open to exploring other options such as another foster home or a rescue. I am wondering if you might be able to help me with any of those possibilities?%A0 %A0 Thanks so much for your time.%A0Feel free to contact me to discuss further at 805-284-1035 or my email address [email protected].
