A Stunning Pair of Saints up for adoption!!! Tubby 4.5 year old male & Harmony 3.5 year old Female ubby came to us as a behavioral case as well, he was reported to be dog and people aggressive. This is beyond rare for a dog to be both - so we took a chance to take him in! He waited 7 months to get his slot with us for our rehabilitation program. However upon picking him up, it was very obvious he had some major medical issues going on. One being severe allergies and the smell of yeast, that almost knocked me over from 30 feet away. He had a horrible ear infection, ears nearly swollen shut and gooped so bad his ears were matted and had to be shaved. He had severe skin infections on all 4 feet and his neck as well. It was a long 3 hour ride home with him smelling so terrible. We got him straight in and began cleaning him up, he never once had an issue with me or any of our handlers at our Behaviorist's training center. We noticed his gait was off, also it was obvious he had severe Entropion in his eyes and he was severely underweight - I could feel every bone in his ribs, spine, hips, etc. We cleaned him up well, began treating his ears and took him off all poultry products and put him on our fish based food. We then got him into his first vet appointment where we had to give him a Cytopoint injection for his allergies, had full sedated Xrays and a full screening of his bloodwork. Anytime we have a behavioral case, we do extensive medical testing to see if anything in their behavior is medically based. He loved everyone at our vet's office as well, even with them poking him, prodding him and manhandling him. His jouney was pretty incredible from there! We found multiple issues going on, one obviously was that he has really bad allergies, we just prayed the food would do the trick but we ran an allergy test to be sure as well. He definitely had severe Entropion and Ectropion but also needed a facelift. This guy couldn't see!!! His wrinkles were so heavy they literally rolled down into his eyes. Then the Xrays showed some pretty extensive damage to his joints. He was in PAIN! He had been neutered earlier than recommended for giants, so his growth plates closed early then that left no where for his bones to grow. This his tibias are bent like a half moon shape! This made his hips, ankles and even toes be all out of alignment �ٴ�. At this point we discussed all the surgical options possible and referred to several specialists, which all agreed that each joint that needed repair, could not support the correction of the other. So the ankles could not support his hips being fixed and vs versa. This in addition to his age, was not favorable, so we put him on pain medications and a various combination of joint supplements and prayed. We finished with his eye surgeries and facelift then watched this boy come alive!!!! He had shown some odd behaviors with other dogs before but it was not 'dog aggression'. He would charge them for abput 10 feet, barking and lunging but make no contact, then he would turn and walk away. He was very reactive to higher energy smaller breeds as well. However this behavior came across more like a big warning, rather than aggression... Once we addressed his issues with surgeries and pain medications, during recovery, he was roommates with our girl Harmony. One day I went to let her out and he threw an absolute fit! So I let him out with her and he instantly just meshed with her - didn't really react, just existed with her and seemed very happy. He would do the same with Zola, my training dog but they just gave him space and all was great. About a week later, he came alive and started to try to play!!! This we caught on video and is posted on our page too - but the girls just had no clue what to think of his sudden change in behavior ����. They just held back as he tried so hard to play. A few days later, they were romping, running and playing together like crazy! I will tell you, I truly cried at this sight as I was so happy beyond belief! This guy was suffering terrible allergies, in pain and couldn't see! Now we put back about 25 pounds on him, he is not in pain any longer and the food seems to have solved his allergy issues, no more allergy medication! He has had no more ear infections, hot spots or skin infections since the changes!
