About Jack

Great Pyrenees / Lab
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

This is Jack. All 94 pounds of him. This smart and beautiful Great Pyrenees / Black Lab mix has been through eye-popping turmoil in his short life of just 14 months. He is currently in a temporary foster home in Stoughton MA, but needs an experienced adopter or longer-term foster immediately. With his recent birthday, Jack is now a teeny bopper. OK, so adolescents can be buttheads, human or canine, and at his size you could say he's a handful, er%BD'%BD|lapful. What's more, Great Pyrenees mature more slowly than other breeds, and become a true adult closer to 3-years old. Your patience will be a virtue with a capital V, while the rewards for helping this 'little' project dog will be priceless! Bottom line, Jack is a wonderful boy, a big mushy love monster who's trying very hard to be a good boy with the help of his foster family and trainer. He's sensitive, goofy, and snuggly. He loves going on walks, playing fetch, and chasing his tail. He's a very smart boy and will do almost anything for treats. He knows: sit, down, give paw, other paw, heel, stay, and touch. He also travels well and walks nicely on leash. In winter, he loves playing in the snow and catching snowballs. Given just a little more exposure, in time he could do well around farm animals! Jack was definitely intrigued on his visit to meet chickens and horses, and relaxed after some treat tossing. He even got a little closer to give them a sniff. Jack is great at giving his people pop quizzes to keep them on their toes! He likes to test his boundaries like all teens. He requires an experienced adopter who won't put up with his antics, but at the same time be compassionate. Still a puppy with a developing brain, Jack needs to continue with the methods that work for him - - CONSISTENCY in three areas: house rules, training, and a daily schedule. This lifestyle is game changing for Jack who thrives on a routine and having a leader to look up to. Jack will growl when he feels unsure and he will guard what he perceives are 'his' things. He is working through this with the help of his current foster and trainer. Jack is a young dog who has been bounced around a lot. He was saved hours before his euthanasia appointment, which we will explain to you. We know what works with Jack. We just need someone with experience to follow through with his training plan, which is based on positive reinforcement. His current foster is doing just that and he is responding splendidly! He is calm, he's happy, he's becoming well adjusted as he is introduced to many new things. That said, this continued training is a must. When initially rescued, Jack loved playing with the resident dogs. He loves other doggie friends and will need regular interactions with them. He just did a pack walk in which he was the star! However, it's best for Jack to be the only dog unless you are familiar with 'crate and rotate' until Jack can work through his tendency to guard his space. He is progressing nicely with using a crate and will need to continue this practice. For easier transition, any kids must be 16+ and no cats. Please ask yourself if you're a consistent, committed, and patient person. Will you work with his trainer (no cost to you)? During the initial several weeks, he may test you; if he pushes your buttons, just remember he will grow out of it! Large fenced yard is a big bonus. Jack is neutered, UTD on shots, house trained, and crate trained. Please give Jack another chance and apply at https://tiny.cc/ARK-Application #ARKforJack #JustSaveThem
