About Bellatrix de la Dorg

Bellatrix is a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier (proved via DNA analysis), found running free in the Pittsburgh area this past March. When she came to us six weeks ago (it's a long story), she had apparently never before been on a leash; we have been doing obedience training with the help of a trainer in South Carolina. The spaying vet told us she has had at least one litter; we suspect she may have been raised to be a breeder at a puppy mill. She is crate-trained/comfortable and completely housebroken, though she will pee and poop currently only on dirt or grass. Away from other animals, she walks quietly at heel, sits, goes to place, and lies down, but she is very reactive/distractible around other animals; we have not allowed her to get close to other dogs. She considers every human being her friend, has bonded strongly with us, and is growing more and more tolerant of being left alone in her crate. She loves to ride in a car, but will bark at dogs on the sidewalk. She is a serious snuggler and curious about everything; her face will appear at your knee, looking up with wrinkled velvet forehead, as though saying, 'What doing?' Her chin on your thigh is incredibly heavy. The photo doesn't do justice to her intensely glossy, smooth black/white coat and athletic build. We say, of her gait, that her rear suspension is remarkably springy; you should see her jump effortlessly over a small obstacle! If we lived in a house, we'd have kept her, but, alas, we live in a high rise apartment in New York City. We will continue to foster her until we find an appropriate forever home.
