About Oliver

German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

He is a 45lb, neutered German shorthaired pointer. UTD on his shots, due for 2022 rabies now. 5 years ago he was dumped in my yard by someone who had no idea what to do with a high energy breed puppy. He was left in a crate outside for the first 10 months of his life where they shot at him when he barked. He has since become a beloved part of our family. Unfortunately, Oliver loves people so much that he cannot be contained in our yard without an electric fence/shock collar. He is terrified of being shocked and won't venture very far from our door to potty. He has been through three training programs and I've tried every kind of harness and tie out on the market, but he's very strong for such a little guy. Most of our neighbors know him well'| He is incredibly smart and loves to work. He used to come to work with me every day at a skilled nursing community prior to Covid. However, Covid and my busy work schedule has made daily training time practically nonexistent for the past year. I am physically handicapped and cannot walk Oliver on a leash because he has horrible manners and pulls when he's excited. He simply needs more exercise and training than I can give him. Oliver is afraid of his own shadow. He hates car rides, thunderstorms, fireworks, and he's terrified of new people. He will growl, bark and run away until he warms up to you. He has been around lots of other dogs and a pig, but has been attacked by a neighbor's dog while in our back yard so he is uncertain about new animals and runs from them until he knows he is safe. Oliver needs a home with a fence where he can run, or someone who has the ability to leash train and walk him every day. He loves nothing more than to snuggle and to play fetch. He loves children more than adults. He'll do anything for peanut butter or a raw potato and he can sit, shake, lay, wait, dance and jump through a hula hoop on command. To say I love this dog is an understatement, but I have reached my physical limitations to care for him and the humane society will put him down if they catch him loose again. I don't want to re-home him, but I feel that is the most fair thing I can do for him at this point. If you know someone that you think can help Oliver, please send me a message.
