About Archie

Boxer mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Ahhh'|. Space to breathe. Rustling trees. Gardens in bloom. A pastoral setting is ideal for Archie, so if that's how you roll, he could be your perfect match! Meet Archie! This 6-year old, 90-pound male boxer mix from Fitchburg, MA is a big boy with an even bigger personality! Archie has been an awesome dog since being adopted a year ago, but it turns out he is leary of kids and sometimes guards them. Since his pet-parents want children, ARK is helping them find Archie the perfect match. Archie is a big cuddle bug and he very much likes to curl up in your lap. From his nosy curiosity and epic head tilts to his zoomies and butt wiggles'|he will keep you amused 24/7. He likes to be by your side and help with whatever task you are doing. Good news, you will never have to use the bathroom alone again! But beware! He is a bit of a manipulator when it comes to getting his much-loved massages. He will sit nicely near you facing forward and when you reach his sweet spot he'll let you know with a satisfying grunt. He's a great co-pilot on car rides and walks well on a leash (with gentle reminders). He enjoys learning, and because he's treat-motivated, he quickly picked up basic commands. He loves his chew toys and easily entertains himself with them. His favorite games are chase, tug, and catch, but he's still working on 'drop it!' As far as other dogs go, Archie appears to be a lady's man. He does not appreciate the company of male dogs, but does great with his current sibling, a female husky. With proper introductions, he should be fine with a female dog who is similar in size. Archie can also be the only pet (no cats either as he is unfamiliar). Take note! This quirky boy is persnickety about his body. Though he loves to be rubbed, pet, scratched, played with, cuddled, etc'| the moment he suspects you will brush his teeth, trim his nails, or clean his ears'|he heads for the hills! You should know that it will take some work to earn his trust, so he knows that your intention is not to hurt him. Archie has worked so hard to resolve many of these touch issues. In the beginning he protested being collared, leashed, harnessed, etc., but now he's so good that he is about 75% muzzle trained! Archie will excel with an experienced and confident handler who is also loving and patient. He enjoys a schedule and will alert you when you are not keeping it! Archie likes to take his time getting to know people. Just ask guests to wait for him to come to them and not disturb him while asleep. 'Let sleeping dogs lie' as the saying goes. Archie likes his crate and his adopter will want to continue this practice. It's where he sleeps at night, where he stays when home alone, and where he eats his meals and gets treats. Did someone say peanut butter Kong?! Due to his size and strength, Archie needs a strong handler because he is easily excited especially when he sees people and other 4-legged kids. He gets a little confused as to who is in charge, so he needs someone to lovingly remind him that this is not his job, and he can relax and go back to the business of being a dog. Archie is best suited for a home without children or frequent child visitors. He is such a good boy! All he wants is to be the center of your world, because you are the center of his. Archie is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on his annual vet check, shots, and preventives. Archie comes with his medical records, crate, beds, toys, a bag of his food, treats, 6 months of heartworm prevention, his outdoor hammock, his leash, collar, harness, seatbelt, and training tools.
