About Rhea

This is Rhea. She is a mixed breed of Staffordshire Terrier, Belgian Malanois, and German Shepherd. We adopted her in January of 2022 at approximately 9 months old. She was extremely timid in the shelter and was listed as a German Shepherd mix. Within a few weeks we realized that she would need a lot of help. She had completed a 2 week board and train and learned lots of basic commands, however, most of that time was spent working on getting her comfortable giving control away to a handler. She knows commands: sit, stay, come, and has excellent recall. She walks well on a leash and is e-collar and crate trained. We do not have the availability to give her the exercise and enrichment that she needs. She is able to jump a fence and will do so repeatedly if she does not have someone keeping her occupied or something to do. I feel that she would thrive in a home with a family that is active and can spend a lot of time exercising her or in an environment where she can be put to work, as she is ultimately a mix of working breeds. She is a very sweet dog but will push boundaries until she learns who is boss...and then she will be loyal to a fault. She WILL be destructive if not given the proper outlet for her extremely high energy. She has destroyed many dog beds and toys. She is great with other dogs but is very active, and some dogs may find this behavior to be dominant. Her temperament with cats is unknown, but I would imagine that she would not do well with them, as she has a high prey drive. She does well with older children due to her high energy level and active nature, but has never shown any aggression towards other pets (we have a senior Yorkie) or people. I have 11 nieces and nephews, age ranges from 4 years to 15 years old and she enjoys playing with them; but as stated, she likes to play rough. She is a solid 55lbs of muscle and can run upwards of 30mph. She loves to play fetch with a ball and frisbee and is extremely agile. While I truly hate to rehome her, it is ultimately in her best interest. I work 12+hour shifts, my boyfriend works night shifts, and we have a 6 month old daughter that we cannot let her around because she is too high energy and too rough. She is spayed and up to date on all vaccines.
