About Big Mac

Adoption Fee: $500
Great Dane
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

LOCATION: Kennewick, Washington - AGE/DOB: 4 years, 08/2018 - Mac is a very lovable and sweet boy! He has spurts of energy but loves to just lay around and sleep on his favorite big barker bed. He knows some basic obedience such as sit, wait, paw, down, and is working on leave it. He can be stubborn and does not always follow commands so continued training and consistency will be key. He stays in his crate when his foster family leaves the house or at night to sleep. He does great and goes in with his favorite puperoni treat. Mac is house trained and will go to the door or whine really loudly if he can't get to the door when he wants to go out. He loves to go on walks and will pull but also listens and will come back when you stop. His foster parents ask him to sit every time a car passes, and he does great. He has not been reactive to other dogs on the leash. However, in the house he has become more reactive to the resident dogs between the gates, likely due to jealousy of wanting to be the one close to his humans and frustration because he wants to play. He has not been able to mingle with his foster parent's 3 dogs due to challenges with resource guarding of toys, food, and people. However, he has done parallel walks with his foster parent's female dog and does great. With structure/routine and the right continued training, we think Mac may be able to live with a large female dog after slow and proper introductions. Because of his challenges with resource guarding, Mac's foster parents are working with him on muzzle training as a precaution (something that especially comes in handy for vet visits). We would not recommend children at this time because of his size (and the fact that he does not realize his size) and resource guarding. Mac is not your typical Dane for cuddling. He will come to you and lean or put his head on you when he wants love. He loves his butt scratched. He likes to play, but gets mouthy and rough (again, resource guarding!). His foster family no longer keeps toys out due to his challenges. He loves toys but is very territorial of them. Now he does not freely get them but if he is on his side of the house, he can have a toy. He loves the squeakies! Mac ADORES his foster dad and it seems like he has a preference towards men. His foster family loves him very very much, but they know their home is not the best situation for him forever. Every day they see a little more of his amazing personality. He needs all the love, and he will give it back 100%. If you are willing to put in the effort to work with Mac and help him to become the amazing dog we know he can be, please apply today! ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 =========================
