About DARLA & GRACE

Adoption Fee: $550.00
Maltese
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Introducing Darla and Grace! They are a precious little bonded pair of 9 year old Maltese sisters. Darla weighs 6.2 pounds and Grace is 7.12 pounds. They came into rescue scared and timid and it will take a bit for them to bond with their family. They are still very unsure of things and need constant affirmation that they will be all right. They love when you talk with them softly and are just the sweetest girls ever. Once they bond with their new family, a more playful, snuggly side will come out! It will just take time and patience. They will be well worth that time investment because they are absolutely precious! Darla and Grace are very attached to each other and where one goes the other will follow. They have just gotten into the groove of going outside with all of the dogs in their foster home. When they come back in, they like to go into a playpen where their food, bed and water is. They love having a place to feel safe and secure that belongs to them. They also love to snuggle together in a doggy bed and lie next to each other on a little doggy couch in their foster home. To encouraging socialization their foster mom lifts them up on the couch to watch tv with her. Grace is a little hesitant of cuddles, she prefers to be by her sister's side or will lie beside someone. Darla is a little more accepting of snuggles. They will wag their little tails when someone talks softly to them. They are fine with other small dogs but bark at the big dog in their foster home. We have not had them around cats since they have been with us, but we don't imagine they would have any issue except to possibly bark. They should not go to home with kids, they are just too skittish for that. Darla and Grace are still working on their potty training but will happily potty when they go out into the yard. You do have to watch them though because like many dogs who spent their lives confined, they will eat their own poop. Their foster mom solves that problem by scooping it up as soon as they potty. They absolutely will need a secure fenced yard and a leash and harness for walking. They do not trust people enough yet to be in any situation where they could get away because they would probably never be able to be recovered. Darla and Grace are looking for a quiet home without a lot of traffic. Whoever is lucky enough to make them part of their family will be blessed! They have been to the vet for a wellness check, are up to date on shots, fecal tested, heartworm negative, have had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and are microchipped with a lifetime registration. Grace has already been spayed and had her dental. She may have lost all of her teeth in the process, but you can tell that she feels so much better. Darla will have her spay and dental this week.
