About Jack & Jill

Adoption Fee: $600
Dachshund
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Jack and Jill are a bonded 10 year old pair of Black and Tan long haired dachshunds looking for their forever home. Their forever home will have a fenced yard. Jack and Jill do not bark excessively but when they do bark they bark together! They bark when they are happy about food or when they meet someone so they would not be suitable for a home that has noise restrictions such as a condo or an apartment. Jack and Jill are looking for a home where their people are home most of the time. Jack and Jill are house trained and will go to the bath room on command. They do not have accidents at night. With a bit of coaching they will go outside to use the bathroom even when it is raining. (We all know dachshunds don't like the rain!) Like all dogs, they will need to be confident in their environment to have good potty habits. All rescue dogs go thru a period of adjustment so understanding and patience is important. Jack and Jill are a submissive pair. Jill is the leader of the bonded pair. They get along very well with other dogs. They would do well in a home with another dog if the dog was calm and friendly as they will try and cuddle and snuggle with that dog. They do not seem to understand that a growl may be a warning so it is important that the other dog be friendly or they could be harmed. Jack and Jill would do well in a home with children over the age of 8. In their previous life they lived in a home with a cat, but our rescue has not tested them with cats to see their response to them. Jack and Jill like to be in any room where their people are. They are social and loving. They are not especially playful but they are highly bonded with each other and want to be together. They become very upset if they are separate. They respond well to routines and if their foster mom in Florida leaves the home she tells them to go lay in their bed and they will obey. Given a treat, they calmly fall asleep. These beautiful dogs are easily trained. They are leash trained and walk well on a lead and are obedient. They are trained to use ramps to go off and on furniture and should have ramps provided in their forever home. They would love a home where they can sleep in the big bed with their family. Jack and Jill bark at strangers upon initial meeting, but warm up very quickly. Jill loves anyone who pets her. She loves belly rubs and will roll on her back and stay there until you notice her and provide pets. Jack is also friendly, but he clearly picks one human as his favorite. He happily accepts attention from other people, but will clearly focus on his preferred human. They ask for pets by rubbing their heads on the person and are very persistent in their needs for cuddles! Jack and Jill have both had medical care in rescue and have both worked at loosing excess weight with the help of their foster family. Jack has had cherry eye surgery. Both Jack and Jill have had dentals. Jill has a luxating patella in her back right leg. This has likely been a lifelong issue. Surgery is not recommended by the veterinarian. Getting her weight down has helped her mobility. She is able to walk well. She bunny hops when she runs. She is not in any pain. Jill recently had a tummy upset that required vet care and any food changes for Jill should be approached with caution to avoid a repeat. A gentle and loving pair of dachshunds, Jack and Jill are polite and well mannered. They stand to be groomed and will take treats gently out of their foster moms hands.
