Unfortunately, when owners allow their dogs to wander it often ends tragically. For Coco, however, we hope to write a better ending to his story. His owner brought him to animal control to be euthanized after he was shot with a pellet gun by an unknown assailant. Coco being a clever dog bolted away and soon was the chatter on social media. Some of our volunteers went out to help search for Coco and once found, convinced the owner to relinquish him. We brought him to our vet to receive emergency care. Fortunately, Coco's injuries were not life threatening and he is recovering well. He did test positive for heartworms and will undergo treatment soon. We believe he is a yellow Labrador mix and approximately two years old. Coco is a friendly dog that gets along well with both dogs and cats. He is a good fit for an adult or family with older children. Coco is generally well behaved but he does not care to be bothered when eating. Not surprising for a dog that was infrequently fed. He is thoroughly enjoying all the attention of volunteers and especially looks forward to outdoor playtime. A home with a large fenced-in backyard would be ideal to give him the freedom to run and play. Coco has always been an outdoor dog and will need further training to be housebroken. He really enjoys the comforts of his climate controlled kennel and does his best to keep it clean. Coco is the type of dog that is happy just hanging out with you. He would love to spend the best years of his life with you.
