About Journey

Yorkie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

**WE ONLY ADOPT & DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** PLEASE READ HER FULL BIO & DISCUSS WITH YOUR HOUSEHOLD BEFORE APPLYING: Journey is gorgeous and petite, but her previous people did not have a lot of time to spend with her, so she is unsure of a lot of common household things and some actions of people.%A0She has been left alone and not socialized therefore she is hesitant to go to new people and she will run if you try to get her. Once she feels comfortable, she will let you pick her up or she will%A0jump in your lap. She is not an instant cuddle dog and when she does cuddle you need to pace the timing, so she doesn't get overstimulated to react negatively. Please think about how you would need to interact with her to help her trust. We want people to have a plan and understand that you will need to be patient with her even if you are in a rush to leave or work with her training, she may not come to you easily for you to place her in her separate area or room! She is treat motivated and we will need to train you on how to have her in your home while continuing to rehabilitate her.%A0Journey has different behaviors in different environments with different stimuli so her reactions differ and we need time to properly educate you on what she needs to be a secure dog. She can be unpredictable with her affection and aggression with people and objects.%A0For example, she will bark consistently at doors/cabinets opening, blow dryer, blender... Sometimes with this bark, she will circle and try to nip at the object. We have been working with her to desensitize her%A0of these things with some success, but it may need to be addressed again in her adoptive home. This will take time with regular training to help her adjust. Journey can only take human attention in small doses or she will try to dominate you by nipping, protecting an area or her bed. She is potty trained to go in the yard%A0that she loves to run around in. We are looking for a home that has someone home often that will continue to introduce her to new people in small, controlled environments as well as proper exercise. Journey is stimulated by different sounds and situations so if you are in an apartment%A0or condo she would not be good!%A0She plays well with other small calm dogs BUT she needs to be an ONLY dog. Because of her jealousy, she will nip the other dogs when 'Her Human' is around or any excitement!%A0%A0Journey is only 4 years old and%A07 pounds. She will need monthly heartworm prevention as well as grooming. Journey has had a dental cleaning%A0with her vetting and is healthy. She does give kisses and is improving every day! RECAP: Journey needs people%A0that can set boundaries and routines to help her trust. JOURNEY WOULD BE FABULOUS IN AGILITY TRAINING! She can NOT be with children or other dogs and would not be good in apartments/condos or large families. You must have some dog training experience and determination to guide her through her behavior. Watch some YouTube videos on training possessive small dogs and think long-term with your rehab for Journey. She is lovely but not all the time, yet.%A0If you have experience, time, and patience, consider giving her a devoted home.%A0Her adoption fee is $350 to go towards their vetting%A0(vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed). If you are interested please fill out the%A0adoption application%A0For additional information regarding our adoption process, please check our%A0FAQ's Page. %A0*All dogs in the care of Get a Life Pet Rescue live in loving foster homes while waiting for their perfect match.
