*PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST* We rescued this pup a couple months ago and feel that there is a better home for him out there. We do love him and he sure has come a long way in a short time, but he will be better suited in a home with NO other pets and no young kiddos. The vet said he is somewhere between age 1 and 2 which makes sense because he still has puppy vibes about him. He is crate trained and potty trained and seems to favor a certain area in the yard to do his business which is kind of nice. We've trained him to sit and shake. He has 'selective hearing' for lie down, come, and get-in-your-bed but he'll eventually give in. He loves all people and kids too. The issue is when he sees or hears a dog or cat he gets triggered and is very hard to control and can get quite nippy at us. Otherwise he LOVES to run and play and has fun energy and loves his chewy toys, squeaky toys and balls. He bolts around the yard sprinting around and needs to burn off energy so he can be chill and relaxed the rest of the time. He needs a SECURE backyard and would be best with a family who is home most days. If a car door opens he jumps in-ready for an adventure but needs to be secured when in the car because again, if he sees an animal, he's out of control. The other issue he has is that when scolded he will growl. He'll growl also if you tell him to do something he doesn't want to do. I guess we'll call him 'strong-willed'. He needs more training, patience, love and lots of positive reinforcement. After our little one is in bed we let him come snuggle with us on the couch and he's just the sweetest cuddler. The issue is when you try and tell him to get up once he's comfortable, he'll growl and nip in protest. He is fixed and all up to date on shots now. We did a blood panel to screen for any health issues and vet says he is VERY healthy. The embark breed/health DNA test also revealed no genetic health concerns so he's a healthy pup! He is eating well now with no food aggression and is up to a healthy weight of ~30lbs. He really is a pretty cool dog and he deserves a home that he can integrate with better with all the members of the household. We found him a perfect human a couple weeks ago and they hit it off really well but he had to bring him back because he severely injured a cat. Front street suggested we try to rehome him as opposed to bringing him back to the shelter because euthanasia is a real possibility so we are back to the drawing board. We will likely post him on a couple Schnauzer rescue sites as well. Call or message me if you're interested or if you want any more info or if you wanna come meet him. We adopted him blindly and we're hoping to really set him up for success in the right home so will be completely transparent about everything we know so far. We certainly don't think he deserves to go back to the shelter; he's got a lot of love and fun to share with the right home and family. He will come with his food, crate, beds, blankets, toys, etc.
