Adoption Fee: 100
Bluetick Coonhound / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

TILLIE was saved from a shelter in the south. TILLIE is spayed, rabies, age-appropriate vaccines, heartworm & tick disease tested negative, dewormed and on monthly preventatives. She weighs around 50 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 14 June 2017 . We have no way of knowing for sure what breed she is and so it is up to potential adopters to look at her pictures, video's many more can be found on the rescue website, and decide for themselves. TILLIE is very shy and needs time to warm up and trust. She has no aggressive at all. Tillie has been in a communal kennel and now a kennel of her own. She allows me to stroke her and does like it. A friend comes over and she goes to the gate to greet her and take treats. I think this environment is very scary for her and in a home environment with a little time and patience she will flourish. With the right patient, loving and caring family, this sweet girl will come out of her shell and start to live the life that she deserves. Tillie went to a foster home from August to the middle of November and this is the feedback from her foster mum: Tillie came here in August as a very fearful, withdrawn dog. Over the last months, she has slowly come out of her shell, revealing the bright, engaging, very smart dog that was hiding inside. She loves her toys, often playing with them all by herself, throwing them in the air and chasing them. It's really fun to watch, even though my living room often looks like a toddler lives here! Tillie gets along well with my dog Vin (another alumnus of Give A Dog A Home). She has overcome her fear of many things (walking on grass, wild turkeys, me!) although she still has more challenges to overcome. She is reliably housebroken now and is very food motivated, which makes training easier. She likes apples and carrots and loves hot dogs and string cheese. Tillie knows 'come', 'sit', 'no' and 'leave the cat alone'. She shows no aggression at all to anything, with the exception of my cats. Tillie is still cautious of stranger's, although if they are willing to sit quietly, she will come and take treats from them. When frightened, her response is to retreat if possible and freeze in place if it's not. Remember the children's game Statue? That's Tillie! She is a really smart dog and this means she needs mental exercise as well as physical. Toys, doggie puzzles and training all provide this for her. When bored, she will find her own 'toys' and they aren't always things you'd like her to play with. ;-) Tillie is not a cat-friendly dog and should go to a home without felines. Tillie still needs a lot of work to feel comfortable on a leash. We don't know what her history is, but she is very frightened by both leashes and harnesses and is very reluctant to move forward when wearing either. This will be a project for her and her new family! TILLIE is located at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec and is available for adoption for a reduced adoption fee of $100 ' Dog Application Form - https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 Dogs have access and use dog doors to go outside, they will not know to let you know they need to go outside, so families must expect accidents and be prepared to teach your new dog to let you know when they need to go outside. The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! 'You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the '3 Point Rule' Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure.
