About Xena

Xena is a victim of the worst animal cruelty and neglect and had to learn everything about life that most dogs learn as puppies. As you can see Xena is a beautiful girl, her physical abuse was well hidden by her big coat and so you can't see great progress she has made and who she as bloomed with the most wonderful attitude and desire to put her past behind her. Xena is eager to soak up all the love she can enjoy new life lessons and adventures she is now experiencing. Everything is new to her and she takes great joy in the little things like trying stairs for the first time like a puppy, she is smart and is learning house manners and has become house broken and is in fact a very clean dog. We have enjoyed helping her learn she has a playful side and what toys are all about, she had never been in a car before and it terrified her and now she has learned they are fun and can take to great new adventures - like puppichinos and burgers. She also was scared to meet new people but is learning that people can be loving and gentle and she is responding in kind and is very affectionate, loving to give kisses and hugs to people she knows. Given that she is a very big girl that was clearly starved it is amazing how gentle she is taking food and happy to share that wonderful roasted chicken with you, if you are so inclined. We are currently working on obedience with her and she is learning sit, come and will need more work with leash walking because so excited to see everything she does pull a bit in her excitement to experience all the new things life has to offer. She had been good with most dogs she has met with proper introductions but she was apparently beaten up by her sister so we suggest caution with girls. We don't recommend her with cats based upon her curiosity with squirrels and all the wildlife she is seeing in her foster home.
