About Artie

Bengal
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Artie is an approximately 9-year-old sweet and handsome Bengal cat with Bengal Rescue, a 501c3, who has been through more than we can even imagine. We rescued Artie from Clark County Animal Control in Las Vegas, Nevada. He along with his Bengal girlfriend (Anna) were confiscated by Animal Control November 13th, 2021 and the female of the pair was slated to be euthanized the day we got her, had a rescue not stepped in. They went together to our loving foster who gave them all the love and care that they could possibly give. Both of them quickly presented with virulent Upper Respiratory Infections. We got them treatment right away and hoped for a quick improvement. Artie got stronger with each day that passed - but Anna began to slip away.%A0 A few weeks later, when we brought Anna to the ER, the Veterinary Specialist on duty told us that Anna's vitals were crashing beyond repair, and that the kindest thing we could do is help her cross over. So then - Artie was alone. He lost his lady. Our Foster worked diligently to give him all of the love and support he needed, having been through such a terrible ordeal, leading to the loss of his bonded girlfriend. He was so sad. Months went by and every day his Foster reported that his spirits were rising, and he could feel the love that was surrounding him. One day our Foster reported that his eye started looking rather cloudy. We decided to get him to a Ophthalmology Specialist, and found out that he was suffering from an Ulcerated Cornea. We learned this condition can be quite serious, and can occur for a number of reasons. Our Veterinarian told us he'd like to get him started on a barrage of daily medications to help halt and heal the growth of this condition. We were told if the treatment didn't work he may need to have his eye removed. Several months later, after ensuring his medication was received, we brought him back for a re-check. Our Veterinarian was delighted!! He reported that the medication worked! His Ulcerated Cornea is healing now, and he's now on a daily dose of drops to help keep his eye moist as it continues to heal. He's in such better spirits now. We normally don't have cats in our Foster program for this long (five months), but given all that Artie was facing, we were in no rush to find him a home. We wanted to make sure that all of his medical needs were addressed before taking the leap of matching him with the perfect humans. Artie is ready now. He has shown us that he is now a very gentle, loving, calm and collected cat. He would do well in a quieter home that has all the love and care that he would wish for. Artie lives with other cats, and he doesn't pay them much mind. He's never been around dogs so we don't know that he would be comfortable with dogs. He may do ok with an older calm cat-friendly dog, we're not sure. He loves his 11 year old human who is very gentle and loving with him. He loves to hear her play the Piano. Other things about Artie - if you like to sleep alone, Artie is not the guy for you. He absolutely loves sleeping with his Foster every single night. He's a heat-seeking cuddle bug. He uses his cat scratchers (rather than the furniture) and he has absolutely perfect litter box skills. He's also one of the rare and elusive Bengals that doesn't mind being picked up! He usually responds with contented purring! Arie is a rare and easygoing Bengal. He only wants love and stability. We hope to find him the right family who can give him just that. Artie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and we've spent $1,447.78 on his medical care. He should want for so little now, medically speaking.
