LAYLA IS IN NEED OF A HERO AGAIN FOR NO FAILT OF HER OWN OR SHE WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO A SHELTER WHERE THEY WERE ALREADY GOING TO EUTHANIZE HER BECAUSE OF HER LEG HER LEG HAS BEEN CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VETS SAY SHE IS FINE AND NO NEED FOR FURTHER SURGERY BECAUSE HER LEG IS HEALED SHE JUST HAS WHAT WE CALL A BUM LEG SHE DOES USE IT OFF AND ON BUT THAT SHOULDN'T BE A REASON TO KILL THIS SWEET GIRL AFTER THE HELL SHES BEEN THROUGH HERES LAYLAS STORY : Five y/o Layla has not had an easy life. In fact, it seems like she's endured one stroke of bad luck after the next. She was originally found as an emaciated stray roaming a rural and depressed area of Alabama when she found herself in a kill shelter and facing euthanasia. She had tested positive for heartworm and also apparently sustained an injury to the bottom part one of left front leg/paw, believed to be most likely from being hit by a car. Layla thought her luck had changed when a family saw this diamond-in-the-rough whose joyful spirit and will to live radiated from her. They rescued her from the shelter, were able to nurse her back to a healthy weight (she was a whopping 20 lbs underweight!) and had her heartworm treated. Her leg also healed (but is not much use to her and she functions more like a tripod). Sadly, now it seems that this poor girl's bad luck has returned as her family has recently suffered some major medical and financial hardships and can no longer keep her. If we cannot find another family for her, they will forced to bring her to the city shelter! Layla is crate and house trained and knows her basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, etc). She is even bilingual and understands both English and Spanish very well! Though she likes to spend her day relaxing, she can be playful as well. She loves to sun bathe and cuddle very much. Layla is an expert car rider - she loves to go for rides and does well on long road trips. She also loves walks and does great on a leash. Though she can at times be an escape artist on the leash w/ a collar, she can't escape a slip lead. Layla is a very loyal girl and will always be excited to see you even if it's been just a few hours because she loves her humans that much and demonstrates that they are the center of her world. Layla has lived with 3 young children and adores them. She also lived with another easy-going male dog. She does well with other *calm, confident and respectful* dogs when slow and proper introductions are done on a neutral territory. She does *not* do well with high-energy, rambunctious, and dominant dogs as they make her nervous and uncomfortable. She has not been tested with cats but has been fine and even played with small breed dogs such as a relative's shih-tzu who came to visit. Loud noises such as thunderstorms, loud trucks and sirens, and, oddly enough...the dishwasher, frighten her and make her nervous so she will try to hide and needs a bit of extra TLC to reassure her that she's safe. She would do best in a rural or suburban home where it's a bit quieter than the city. Even though life has not always been so nice to her, she always kept her spirits up in the face of adversity and still manages to love everyone she comes into contact with. Please -- don't let this girl's story end with her being back at risk in the city shelter! Won't you help her realize the forever home and the fairytale ending she deserves? *Note*: Layla is currently located in the greater Raleigh, NC area and will be transported to her adoptive (or foster) home if located in the Northeast. Virtual meet-and-greet can be conducted by video. Please text Karen 4136298152 to help LAYLA KEEP HER LIFE AND BLESS A FAMILY WITH THE LOVE AND PLENTY OF SMILES
