About Roscoe

Adoption Fee: $350
Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Adopter must have experience with reactive dogs Rosco is a 3 yr old neutered black tri Aussie boy. He is HW negative, current on Vaccinations and preventatives. Rosco has been through professional training with a behaviorist and is currently being fostered with his other trainer that is continuing to work on his social skills in Auburn Georgia. Rosco will need to be adopted within driving distance of either Auburn, Ga or Pleasant plain, Ohio. Rosco will require a meet and greet prior to adoption It's Rosco's beautiful soft brown eyes. They will get you. Every. Time. Roscoe is the sweetest loving loyal dog. There's an innocence about him. The thing about Roscoe is... you've got to work a little for that love and loyalty. He will play hard-to-get at first. He'll want to be near you... very near you - but here's your test -- can you give him a little time before reaching out to touch him? Yes, you just want to love him up, but give him a little time and you'll never regret it. He loves to play chase with other dogs and he'll run after a ball as long as you throw it. Bring it back? Uhmmm No - Once Rosco has the ball returning it to you is not how he plays the game he will just tease you now. These are Rosco's rules ! Rosco gets along well with dogs. He is especially drawn to the young energetic ones. Rosco is a very happy boy when he's with the people he knows. Once he is comfortable, he would do anything for you. He is inquisitive and curious and wants to be in the middle of everything. Rosco's ideal home? Rural setting. Fenced yard. Minimal foot traffic. One or more well behaved energetic dogs in the home would be great. Rosco loves an active playmate. Avoid young children in the home. He would not target them, but they might get in the middle when he is claiming something like a ball, trash or a person. Rosco enjoys car rides, walking through pet stores, walking in parks and on trails. When he repeatedly meets the same people, he begins to accept them. (Rosco will lunge if a stranger tries to touch him before he has accepted them.) Roscoe would do best with an experienced owner. Someone that shows strength as a leader. Someone who will tell Rosco what to do and not leave it up to Roscoe to make decisions. He is not particularly good at decision making, but he is getting better at it. Roscoe needs someone who is patient and who will not be shaken by occasional crate aggression. If challenged while he's on leash or inside a crate -- he can become reactive. But if you bring a dog to Rosco's crate and Rosco begins to sniff and wiggle, then he's going to be OK with that new dog. He loves confident well-behaved dogs. I've seen Rosco run from the barky advances of a chihuahua, so he can't be all bad. Dog intros went best when Roscoe was crated. The new dog approached the crate and they sniffed, Roscoe's body language wiggled approval, then Roscoe was permitted to exit the crate and the more intense sniffing ensued, followed by play or at least a tour of the yard.
