About Emma

Emma is 9 years old and was surrendered to the shelter for re-homing because she was having difficulty getting along with the toddler in the home. She turned 9 in June and she is about 67 lbs. and is a German Shepherd. She is fixed, current on shots and has no known health issues. She is heartworm negative and will be micro-chipped prior to going home. She has lived with the same family her entire life. Her preferred toy is bones. Emma is housebroken, doesn't chew stuff up, likes car rides, loves attention, is generally obedient and knows basic commands. She is very loyal and stays within about 10 feet of her owner. She does bark (and it does sound ugly) when a stranger comes around. She DOES NOT have a bite history. This is the observations of her foster: Emma has been at our house for about 3 weeks. We have another senior Shepherd in the home and things were fine the first few days. Emma bonded with the human female in the home by day 3 and things started to change. She is VERY protective of the person she attaches to. Any perceived threat and she is on instant alert. She got very protective of the other dog being around the human female in the home and she has gotten growly with the other dog. She has no problem with the cat in the foster home unless the cat tries to go around the female in the home - then Emma will go after the cat. In other parts of the home the cat isn't an issue. It is my opinion that Emma needs to live in a home with one individual who will be her constant companion. She is very anxious the first few days and to help her through that we did put her on some melatonin. We believe she should be the only dog in the home. A cat would be fine if it is the kind of cat who ignores the owner. She loves laying outside on our deck. A fenced in yard would be a huge benefit for her as she does like to explore.
