About Twinkles

Yorkie / Maltese
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

**WE ONLY DO HOME VISITS FOR ADOPTIONS NEAR BROWARD & PALM BEACH COUNTIES** Meet Twinkle, she is a 10 year old girl who came from a hoarding situation. She arrived in terrible conditions. Her hair smelled like urine and poop and her hair was severely matted. This tiny 6.5 lb girl has suffered so much. She has never interacted positively with humans so she is very scared. Extremely hard to see her shaking with fear when all you would like to do is love her. She doesn't come to you and she hides in the corner, under furniture, or under the blanket. No matter what you do, she is just terrified of humans. She is currently in a foster home where is learning to walk on a leash but all with some baby steps. She will require some long-term rehabilitation to help her understand that humans are good so for now she will continue to work with her foster parents. Her ideal home is with someone who will be patient with her and give her a little space but also love her enough to just sit with her on the sofa or the bed. She doesn't bite when you reach out to her to pick her up, but she will try to run from you! Once you have her in your arms, she is a complete love. Then you put%A0her down and she will run from you as if you were going to hurt her! In time she will overcome this with love and patience. She does well with other small dogs so having a socialized calm dog would help her. She will require a secure home with a fenced yard (No exceptions) due to her fear, we want to ensure she is secure but also cannot be left alone in the yard. For now, we walk Twinkle on a leash at all times. She is a runner so if you look away, she will be gone. Twinkle is learning. Everything scares her, loud noises so children would not do well with her. She does have a grade 4 out of 6 heart murmur. She will be on meds the rest of her life and will need ongoing cardiology care. She is currently on vetmedin, so think long-term with medication, vet care, grooming as well as monthly heartworm prevention. Contact your vet and get some idea of pricing on her medical care before applying. This dog's adoption fee is $200 to go towards their vetting%A0(vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/Ehrlichia/Lyme test, fecal test, pre-op blood work, dental cleaning, and microchip as well as grooming if needed).
