About Lulu

HIGH RISK. OUT OF OPTIONS. Lumi, or Lu Lu as she's affectionately known, needs a home asap. We've tried to find her a home for a long time now. Lumi is an amazing loveable dog when given a fitting owner and environment. She's proven herself before, but her first family moved with the military where marginalized breeds are unwelcome in housing. She's been holding on with a generous trainer but it's a temporary solution. A real home with a fenced yard and pet parent is what this unhappy and confused dog needs immediately. If you or someone you know can provide a single home with a fenced in yard, a lifestyle that doesn't have a lot of company or drama, please consider adopting a very home-able pocket pittie who's almost four-years-old and weighs a smallish 56 pounds. Please read what we think would be Lumi's love letter to you. Hi! I'm Lu! I'm a solid and very fit pittie who leaves plenty of room on the sofa. People who know me say I'm a cutie-patootie with a peppy personality. I hope you agree, but you're probably wondering why I'm up for adoption. I had a nice family that had to give me away because they moved into military housing where dogs like me are not allowed. I was so insulted I could've pooped on Uncle Sam's foot! Luckily a nice lady is fostering me until I find a new home. Turns out she is a trainer, too! She keeps me busy with activities that build skills and confidence. I really like her advice on how to be my best. I need someone like her that is a confident handler where I can feel safe, who I can trust, and who will enable me to be my best. I am very smart and athletic. I love having a job, doing things I can focus on, and learning tricks. One of my coolest attributes is how I can be ready for action AND a couch potato. I find it best to have two modes in life. If you are like me, active sometimes but value your down-time, let's get together! I like playing with humans, but I'm also good at entertaining myself with toys and chews. When outdoors, I like sniffing, playing in water, and taking walks. I walk nicely while on leash, and usually ignore other people and dogs as long as they don't get too close. I do like being off leash in a fenced-in yard. Full disclosure! I am a nervous dog, I've always been that way. Since I have a problem with reacting to things I don't like, I need a special person who understands I'm not a bad girl, just scared at times. When I get that way that is when you come into play. I need your guidance or I will react to protect me and you. It helps that I'm very responsive to learning and following my leaders' cues. I do well with a daily routine, and being held to expectations. My adopter will have my trainer's support to help us start off on the right paw. I don't mean to be picky, but I do need a certain home: Adult home, no children Only pet in the home Fenced-in yard; no apartments Experienced confident handler Human company much of the day So you can see my options are limited. Here's a note from my advocates: Lulu is an extremely loving and happy girl challenged by stranger danger when visitors initially approach the house, knock, and enter her home. However, there's a short procedure to get her belly up for a rub! Before new people enter the home: 1) Leash up Lu and place her in a crate; 2) Have visitors settle in and sit down; 3) Let Lu out of the crate with her leash dragging along the floor; 4) Let her walk around and sniff while your guests ignore her; 5) She'll interact on her own choosing, checking in and out; until she's settled. She is well worth the little time it'll take her to meet new people!
