About Charlie

Adoption Fee: $400
Dachshund
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

You sent Charlie is a handsome 6 year old, 15 pound piebald dachshund boy who is looking for a home to love him without condition. Charlie is a spunky little boy who enjoys playing with toys and play tug with a toy. He is quite playful and enjoys a leash walk. Charlie will get excited when he sees the leash, and he will run to the door and wait for his foster mom to clip it on him at walk time. When Charlie is on a leash for a walk, he will bark at other dogs and pull his leash. He loves to go into his fenced yard in his foster home in Alabama. Charlie is looking for a home without children. He would not be suitable for a home that has children that regularly visit, or any child under the age of 14 years. Charlie is not cat friendly, as he will chase them. Charlie is well behaved with the other dogs in his foster home. Handsome Charlie had to have his tail removed when he came into our rescue; he had a severe infection and this was the only option. His foster mom says it has made him even cuter than he was with a tail! Charlie has no other health concerns. Charlie sleeps in his crate at night, although sometimes he is reluctant to go into his crate. However, if he has his leash on, he will go right into his crate. Charlie loves car rides! He rides in his crate sometimes, but if he is not in his crate he rides with a doggy seatbelt on because he doesn't sit still during travel. Charlie came into our rescue from a shelter. We do not know his history, but we feel as though he has been traumatized during his short life. He can be anxious and nervous. He is not sure how to let a person love him. Charlie is fearful in new situations and will react with a growl and other reactions. Charlie has come a long way since he has come in to our rescue and he has learned to snuggle and be loved. He has learned commands and he has taken behaviour training, and he is obedient with good manners. Charlie is leaning towards wanting to please people, but he can still be defiant and reactive when exposed to something new or if he decides that he doesn't want to do something. His foster family has worked with a behaviourist with Charlie and she said he had no confidence. His foster family has worked hard to help him build up his confidence. Leash walks, crate training, working on place, sit, come, and out. He knows what to do, but sometimes he pushes back due to his lack of trust and confidence. Charlie is a wonderful boy who has been let down by humans. He needs someone who understands that patience and kindness will be needed to help Charlie feel safe and loved. Are you going to be the one to show Charlie what it is to belong?
